New First Aid Legislation - 2013 From the 1st April 2013 the HSE will no longer monitor or approve First Aid Training Providers. After that date all providers must be appropriately accredited by a National Awarding Body who issues all certification. All First Aid courses will meet the stringent requirements of the awarding bodies. (SQA, Ofqual, QCA etc) Lancashire First Aid Training Ltd made full preparation for these changes well in advance and we are pleased to be able to continue to meet the needs of all our customers. First Aid at Work courses will continue to be provided (18 hours). In future there will be no external examiner conducting examinations, instead there will be a process of continuous assessment during the course. This means that the full 18 hours will be spent learning. The One Day Emergency First Aid at Work course is unchanged in design or format. In addition to these changes there is some flexibility to allow courses to meet the specific First Aid at Work requirements. Previously there was no flexibility in courses and the content was rigidly enforced by the HSE. Download our latest Newsletter with full details. Click here AED Defibrillation
Training In the event of an individual suffering a cardiac arrest the prompt availability and use of a defibrillator is the treatment of choice to offer the casualty the very best chance of survival. The modern generation of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) are simple and safe to use after a short training course. Lancashire First Aid Training Ltd is able to provide a half day course covering all of the essential training to recognise a cardiac arrest, provide CPR and the skills to operate an AED. This is a stand alone module, so individuals can attend with no previous First Aid Training, or, it can be added onto any other First Aid course, including Emergency First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid. The New 'Vinnie Jones' Advert! An alarming number of people who have watched the 'Vinnie Jones' advert on the television are of the impression that the mouth-to-mouth component of CPR has been discontinued. This is a wrong! The 2010 ERC Guidelines state that people attending First Aid Training courses should be taught the full CPR protocol, including mouth-to-mouth and should use that protocol in the event of a non-breathing adult collapse. Where a person without first aid training encounters a collapsed non-breathing individual seeks help from the emergency services, they should be told to do compressions only. This is simply because it would take too long to provide that teaching over the telephone, as well as the procedure for chest compressions. It should be stressed that the 'Vinnie Jones' advert does not change anything in the event of a non-breathing child collapse, or in the event of a drowning where the procedure is different to a cardiac arrest and where mouth-to-mouth rescue is vitally important. Guidelines (2010) On 18th October 2010 the European Resuscitation Council issued new guidelines for those undertaking resuscitation and those providing training in resuscitation techniques. For those people taking ordinary First Aid courses there are no major changes, although the guidance does emphasise the need for the rate of chest compressions to be given to adequate depth, with the rate increased slightly to 120 per minute. For hospital, acute care and ambulance provision there are several significant changes.
